BYD Introduces Latest Electric Vehicle at a Reduced Price Compared to Previous Model in China

BYD, a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer in China, recently unveiled a new version of its popular car at a significantly more affordable price compared to its predecessor. This move comes as fierce competition grips the thriving electric vehicle market.

In response to competitive pressures, BYD and other electric vehicle companies like Geely Auto and Tesla are offering attractive incentives to attract customers in a market that is starting to cool off. The latest model, the Yuan Plus crossover (also known as the Atto 3 in international markets), is priced at 119,800 yuan ($16,644), reflecting an 11.8% reduction from the previous model.

In 2023, BYD sold 412,202 Yuan Plus EVs, with 100,020 exported, accounting for 42% of its total car exports that year. A report from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers highlights the company’s reliance on overseas markets, where the Atto 3 is sold in Australia starting at A$48,011 ($31,336), marking an 85% premium over the price in China.

This strategic pricing approach aims to capture market share and maintain profitability. As the electric vehicle industry continues to evolve, such competitive strategies are essential for sustained growth and success.
