“GM Ceasing Chevy Malibu Production to Focus on Electric Vehicles”

“General Motors (GM) will bid farewell to its gasoline-powered Chevrolet Malibu later this year, shifting focus to electric vehicle (EV) production. The move aligns with GM’s strategic shift towards crossovers and sport utility vehicles. With more than 10 million Malibu units sold since 1964, the Detroit automaker projects the end of production in November. A hefty $390 million investment is set for their Kansas assembly plant, dedicated to building the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EVs. The automaker also plans to pause Cadillac XT4 production in Kansas by January 2025, causing temporary layoffs until production recommences in late 2025. Despite a 12.5% sales decrease in early 2023, GM noted a 13% sales increase for the Malibu to 130,000.”
